This is a very thoughtful piece. I actually found your idea of other people running in the same maze, or somewhat outside of it, to be comforting--that it's not just some lonely internal struggle, but that other people are going through it in different ways. They made the maze seem real and not some invented thing that is the protagonist's fault. Good stuff!
